His breakthrough came when he joined the legendary Don “The Snake” Prudhomme’s team, where he quickly proved he had the talent and composure needed to compete with the best in the sport.

By the late 1990s, Capps was already making a name for himself driving the Copenhagen Chevy Camaro Funny Car, battling some of the toughest Funny Car fields in NHRA history. His aggressive driving style, quick reaction times, and approachable personality quickly made him a fan favorite across the NHRA tour.

Capps’ career would only grow from there. Over the years he has earned multiple NHRA Funny Car World Championships, dozens of national event wins, and eventually went on to become a team owner, launching Ron Capps Motorsports and continuing his success in the Funny Car class.
