Don Garlits didn't just race dragsters. He built his way into drag-racing history, one chassis, engine, and breakthrough at a time. This 1:24 scale diecast represents his 1992 Kendall GT-1 Top Fuel Dragster, bringing a piece of that legacy to your display shelf.
Released in 1995 by Action / Lionel RCCA, this collectible comes from a production run of 15,000 pieces. For fans of vintage NHRA racing, it connects the Kendall GT-1 era with one of the sport's true pioneers.
From backyard builder to drag-racing pioneer
In 1954, Garlits built a Ford Model T roadster under an oak tree in his Tampa front yard, powering his welder through an extension cord connected to the electric-range outlet. That car earned him his first Top Eliminator trophy. In 1955, he won the NHRA Drag Safari event at Lake City, Florida, with his flathead-powered dragster. By November 1957, his evolving Swamp Rat was recording 176.4 mph at Brooksville.
That's the appeal of a Garlits collectible: a connection to the ingenuity and determination that helped shape drag racing.
