In 1998, Kenny Bernstein unveiled one of the most creative promotional cars in Top Fuel history — the Budweiser “Louie the Lizard” Top Fuel Dragster. The car featured Budweiser’s famous advertising mascot and quickly became one of the most recognizable dragsters on the NHRA tour.

By this point in his career, Bernstein had already built a legendary reputation. Known as the “King of Speed,” he was one of the rare drivers to win NHRA World Championships in both Funny Car and Top Fuel, and he had already cemented his place in drag racing history by becoming the first driver to break the 300 mph barrier in 1992.

The late 1990s were a golden era for corporate sponsorship in drag racing, and few drivers represented their sponsors better than Bernstein. His long partnership with Budweiser helped elevate the sport’s national visibility, making the Budweiser King dragster one of the most iconic machines in motorsports.
