Revelry1 Vintage Shelby Dragway Match Race Jersey T-Shirt
Built from the ground up in 1959 and opening in April 1960, Pence Drag Strip / Shelby Dragway sat about six miles southwest of Sidney, Ohio—a true grassroots strip born from hustle, bulldozers, and big dreams. Under Roy Pence and later Randy Packman, the track became known for hard-running Sundays, rising back to 150+ cars by 1978, the last widely recorded season.
Shelby’s 1970s era leaned into what fans loved most: match racing and exhibition chaos. In 1972, the track ran IHRA sanctioning, hosted headline moments like George Montgomery’s 8.54 @ 152 mph match win (best two-out-of-three), and even booked four jet dragsters on one program—including Art Arfons.
This tee salutes that spirit—and the stories still told in the pits, like the legendary Smokey Bear vs. Hemi Under Glass showdown remembered by local fans.
At Revelry1, we pay tribute to the lost tracks that made drag racing the sport it is today.
